A CREATIVE PHOTO WEEKEND IN THE CATSKILLS
Spend a weekend in the Catskills developing your photographic technique while expanding your visual horizons. This workshop, led by Lou Jawitz, a 20 year veteran of The Image Bank, concentrates on outdoor photography, conducted in an area of the Catskills rich in scenic and nature photo opportunities. Lou will lead the group to some of his favorite shooting spots, which include mountain vistas, streams, waterfalls, covered bridges, farms, and meadows.
The focus will be on improving the individuals techniques, while heightening visual awareness of ones surroundings. The workshop will be primarily concerned with color photography, but students may work in black and white if they wish.
While the emphasis is on shooting, there will also be ample discussion of the principles of pictorial photography, creative use of color, the effects of weather and time of day, film types and equipment selection. The ins and outs of stock photography and marketing your work will also be addressed. Instructors with backgrounds in commercial photography, stock photography, and producing photo articles present a well-rounded look at the photo marketplace.
Through a mix of field trips, slide shows, critiques, and informal discussions, you can be assured of a stimulating weekend that will recharge your creative energy. An informal atmosphere prevails, in which students and instructors exchange ideas during mealtimes, as well as in the field.
The workshop is for intermediate and advanced students. Class size is kept small, allowing for individual instruction tailored to the students needs and skills. There is usually one instructor for every three or four students - an unusually high ratio for a workshop.
OUR INSTRUCTORS
We are fortunate in having two excellent professional photographers, Lou Jawitz and Ed Bohon as instructors. Both have been published in Nikon World and Popular Photography as well as in numerous other magazines. One or both of them will be teaching at every workshop, and visiting instructors are sometimes also on hand.
Lou Jawitz has been a professional photographer for over twenty years, doing advertising and editorial work for major clients. His work is marketed internationally through The Image Bank, and he has had one-man shows at Nikon House and other New York galleries and advertising agencies. Lou is a very energetic photographer whose enthusiasm is highly contagious. This is the tenth year he will conduct workshops in the Catskills. He has also been an Associate Professor of Photography at Sullivan County Community College.
Ed Bohon has been a professional photographer for the past fourteen years, and was previously an art director on the Nikon, Minolta, and Kodak accounts. His articles on photographic technique have appeared in Popular Photography, Modern Photography, Studio Photography, and Outdoor and Travel Photography, and he is currently working on a book project. He is represented by The Stock Market Photo Agency, and has also taught workshops in California and Connecticut.
